About ZAC

ZAC is an established landscape architecture firm based in Petaluma, California.  It is led by Sandra Reed and primarily serves clients in the Northern California region.

Ms. Reed’s expertise is in contemporary landscape design and site planning as well as creative site-specific planting designs that grow and thrive over time.   Over the lifespan of any project, Ms. Reed frequently works in collaboration with other professionals – such as architects, engineers and construction teams – to fulfill the unique needs of every client and installation.

One of ZAC’s current projects is The Barlow, in Sebastopol, California.  Spanning four city blocks, this 12.5-acre destination was created on the site of a vintage apple cannery.  Today, more than 30 merchants at The Barlow offer the community a vibrant space to celebrate art, wine, food, and more, in an intentionally designed open-air marketplace that reflects the agricultural heritage and small-town culture of the region.

As a key member of the development team for The Barlow, Ms. Reed played an integral role in the planning of the site’s overall design as well as its unique landscapes.  She is continuing this role as the new Barlow Hotel becomes a reality.

Ms. Reed holds a master’s degree in landscape architecture from Havard University and worked with international landscape architecture firms in Boston and San Francisco before founding ZAC in Sonoma County in 1987.
